MESSY DAWNS

... of the dead?

Friday… Work was slow. During the morning we got a Hurricane conference that gave some insight on the wrong things to do or the bad places to be during a hurricane… like… gee, this island is so safe… Contractors keep tearing mountains apart, building houses in flooding zones and near the chores… Who cares about nature when profit is in sight? Anyway… Almost fall asleep during the afternoon. Waited for the mage to arrive after work, so we could fly off to eat something and to see Transformers.

TRANSFORMERS: I expected this to be trash. So… I was proven wrong. Entertaining linear storyline, believable FX, they managed to keep the essence of the original cartoons bringing it to the new generation. So, old schoolers and new gen should come out satisfied. BTW, Hugo Weaving is the voice of Megatron, now THAT’s cool!

Saturday… long blah day. Many plans, none completed. The mage had work at midmorning, so I went to Auntie’s Place… The plan was to wash clothing and cleanup my car but since I have a cloud of bad luck lingering over me… there was no water. So… Ate something, read the newspaper, and went home early in the afternoon. To my surprise the mage had arrived early from work, so after trying refreshing myself we went to Walmart to get some needful kitty stuff, and a drill. Nothing, he bought almost nothing, and the bill was around a hundred! It’s becoming impossible simply to live. Everything is so overpriced! (Sight…) We made it to the chicken place, and then we headed home. Night was falling, and the radio gave some insight on some news that are not so good and that somehow have NOT been properly transmitted to the people…

THE BAD NEWS:
ARECIBO: We all know that the Radio-Telescope in Arecibo will be closing around 2010 because of lack of funding… Many ideas to make it a private business… Well, there was so much outrage at first, but somehow things grew quiet, and with the political environment here people loose focus on important things. Well, while no one pays attention, in the Barrio Esperanza has begun a nuclear site construction. There is a government project named Sleight of HAND (High-Altitude Nuclear something) making nuclear experiments on the ionosphere and space, and they are utilizing the radio-telescope technology for that… Arecibo was chosen because of the Radio-Telescope, and because of its closeness to the water deposits (which includes the whole north coast of the island thanks to the reefs and floor conditions given specifically in there… And as you all know, nuclear energy needs water…) Scientists from all over the world are already on site, experiments have been conducted without puclic knowledge, as usual…

EL YUNQUE: Little has been known about the governor of PR signing an approval legalizing US bio-experiments within the depths of El Yunque. The director of the forest denies everything, but the law-act exists, recently signed by the governor. It has always been known that although they say El Yunque is open to the public, there are restricted areas… Now even further. Both flora and fauna can be irreversibly damaged, legally. And it seems that no one gives a damn about it…

COMING HOME FROM WAR: Soldiers returning home from the stupid Irak war have not been properly tested or taken care of… Most seem fine, but when they begin feeling ill and they get medical aid, they have high concentrations of Uranium radiation. Over there, Uranium is used to damage weapons of the opponent… so every soldier is exposed to that radiation. Also, people wounded at battle that have come home because they should not be in the field have reported that they have been summoned back to the field… their doctors have been pressed by the military to sign papers stating they are fine when they are not (if your hand is damaged how in blazes will you handle a rifle or any weapon?!). People don’t want to go to this war, and the military is desperate to get victims…ermm… soldiers, no matter what. Have you seen the lovely campaigns targeted towards Latin-American younglings? It is very ironic that they want the so-called minorities to defend the Land of the Free… like PuertoRicans… But when it comes to giving us statehood they want nothing to do with us because we are a pest for them. Younglings need to open their eyes before they willingly enroll in the military… Yes, there are many benefits… But are you very aware you will be spreading some children’s brains in the floor thanks to the weapon you use? Are you aware you will be killing women and children and innocent bystanders just because they are there? Are you aware of the denial of basic human rights that goes on? When these soldiers come back, they may look fine but their minds will never be the same. Let us NOT forget the Vietnam Veterans, who have been basically forgotten… who went to a senseless war for nothing. Let us NOT forget the 65th Infantery, were ignorant young PuertoRicans were taught simply to point and shoot and then they were placed in the most dangerous place, raw meat for the enemy’s delight… almost no survivors.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANIPULATION EXPERIMENTS: Conducted daily at so-called wastelands… Experiments trying to control the forces of weather and nature (hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning), that have radiation, and that are performed just at the source of the so-called “Sahara Dust” that keeps coming to the island, raising respiratory illnesses… This Sahara Dust is a very new thing, that didn’t exist before, and that now keeps reapering almost weekly covering the whole island. It transports particles that cause damage. People are adviced to stay indoors if they are allergic or have astma… If you wear contact lenses you should not wear them out in the open when the dust is around as it affects them. So… A simple dust? I don’t think so… But no one seems to care enough to actually do real research about it… That, or its classified information… But then again, the feds have always turned X-Files into reality. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.

POLUTED BEACHES, now EVEN CANA GORDA!: Gosh, my favorite beach and thank God I have not gone there. The percent of bacteria required as safe is 35%. Cana Gorda had 215% last weekend, and has been branded not safe. So, following all the reports, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHICH BEACH IS NOT POLLUTED IN THIS FREAKIN ISLE? Because even Combate fell in that cathegory last month… Illegal unsanitary discharges especially from industries keep happening, and the law is not forceful enough to actually prevent it…

What will become of this place, once called Island of Enchantment… It is so sad witnessing the slow destruction of Paradise, the slow destruction of a place that is so small and yet with so much diversity in weather, flora and fauna. And worst, our identity as proud, honest working caring people with a unique culture and lovely traditions has been completely lost. There are many ways of enslaving, not necessarily by force… Keep people ignorant, sell false ideas and let the herd jump in the same place following the shepherd that seems to want their wellbeing, and who keeps bringing all its sheep to the slaughter. 50% of the people here only stays in school until 8th grade. That means most don’t know how to write and read. On this century, THAT is scary. But education brings on the key to deep thoughts, and that is what the government does not want. Sadly. So… People have no ability or desire to be outraged by what is going on, prices keep rising, the cost of living is ridiculous, the land keeps being ravaged, an earthquake/tsunami is on the horizon, a nuclear plant will finish the pollution that already buries us, and mutants shall rise on El Yunque (or zombies… who knows…The Umbrella Co. is a lovely allegory of reality). And we all thought the grey aliens were the enemy of humanity… Think again, Bob!

Anyway... Sunday… As the mage went to see his Munchkin, I went to do the laundry (this time with some luck). Cleanup the car, picked up Groundel and went home. The mage rented some movies, so we spent the night watching John Tucker Must Dies and Dead Silence. I liked both, nice rentals, one full of laughs and one with some classic moments of suspense (although revisiting oldies like Pupetmaster… but it seems that was the idea based on the making of… BTW Absolutely loved the actress/diva who played Mary Shaw!).

Nothing done in the house, for some variety in life… And by now, I don’t care. I’m tired, exhausted, fed up about it and tied up to do anything anytime soon… Whatever. The pitirres keep talking in the mornings, and the lazy cool-cat keep getting shade from the cars…

Life goes on…

10-4
